In response to the first cartoon, I used to manage a jewelry store and I had no problem staffing the place during the holidays. Many employees are widowed or live alone and enjoy being out there participating in the holiday by working. Of course this isn't true for everyone, but I try and be extra nice to retail people at this time of year. I laughed out loud at the church sign! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhen I worked restaurants we closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas... except for the last couple of years when I worked in a downtown area with a large number of seniors living alone. We were open for abbreviated hours so those folks would have someplace to walk for a meal.
ReplyDeleteWhen I worked in c-stores we were open 365 days a year solely for the convenience of the customer. There wasn't much profit on those days.
