********This is very timely. The latest newsletter from The Texas Gardener' Seeds said: Put up a bat house to encourage the presence of these shy animals. Bats consume 3,000 or more mosquitoes and other insects nightly, and bats are less likely to be rabid than dogs are. Need another reason? Bats are responsible for up to 95 percent of the seed dispersal essential to the regeneration of forests.
Our planet is populated with plenty of bizarre and astonishing creatures. Here are three from the Bat Family...without the need for resorting to fiction.
Sucker-footed Bat
Red-Winged Fruit Bat
Left-Winged Ding Bat
They really are creepy, espcially this last picture.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween.

I haven't a clue who the Ding bat is, so I can't comment on the essence of this post ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe've had bats in the house on a couple of occasions (no, I don't mean the mother-in-law, but the real furry flying bats). I do like bats, but prefer them to be outside. It is scary when they are taking diving flights or flying dives just above your head in your living room. I bet they were scared too though.
They live under our rooftiles and in the trees surrounding our house.
Caroline - I may have stepped over the line with this post. It's a bit of political commentary. The party in the last picture is Nancy Pelosi, a carpetbagger from Baltimore, who represents San Francisco in the House of Representatives, is the Speaker of the House, and second in line to succeed as President of the U.S.
