It's not even relevant to the post title

But I liked it

Close encounters of the turkey kind

The Old AF Sarge wrote a post about turkey encounters the other day
Just by coincidence I am able to provide some information about turkey encounters here in the Golden State
Even better... it's video.

This one's relatively tame

This one's a tad scarier

The really scary thing about the videos is those are urban areas where the birds can't be hunted
At least out here in the boon tules (pronounced toolies) turkeys remain in hiding because they are fair game
Lord help the city folk if the coyotes and mountain lions find out about the city birds

Crow study in Texas

A recent study found over 200 dead crows near Bastrop, Texas and there was concern that they may have died from the Avian Flu virus

A Bird Pathologist examined the remains of all the crows, and he confirmed the problem was definitely NOT Avian Flu, to everyone's relief

However, he was also able to determine that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with large trucks, and only 2% were killed by car impact

The State hired an Ornithological Behaviorist from Boston, Massachusetts to determine the disproportionate percentages for the large truck versus car  kills

The Ornithological Behaviorist determined the cause in short order when crows eat road kill, they always set-up a look-out Crow in a nearby tree to warn of impending danger

His conclusion was that the lookout crow could say  "Cah", but could not say "Truck"

I was gonna title it Who're You

That post I wrote the other day
This one
The one I wrote because the Cranky old Man tagged me

Then I looked at it in black and white...
...without an apostrophe

----

I don't know what's going on
But there are lots of old posts getting views... even comments
What gets hits and what doesn't
I sure don't have an answer
But, it sure is nice to be appreciated... even six months later

If I'd discover this soon enough, I'd have put it up yesterday

I'm worried about Suldog

The last we heard from him was before Nemo struck the Northeast
He was reminiscing, or whatever you want to call it, about The Blizzard Of '78 and digressing, too

Just as I am
This post isn't at all about Suldog, at least not directly
What I mean is he and I were both tagged in another blog
That's something I know he really, really looks forward to
That's something to which I know he really looks forward (that for you Uncle Skip)
The Cranky old man was ensnared by some other bloggers into revealing some information about himself
Then he followed some arcane rule that said he's supposed to do the same to inflict it upon others
It really isn't as bad as I make it sound
Unless, of course, you'd rather be doing something else?
Naturally, I'm sandbagging so I don't actually have to respond to the post

WHERE WERE YOU BORN

WERE YOU NAMED AFTER SOMEONE?
Not exactly
I picked my name

IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN, HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE?
That is privileged information
and I'm not sure how many

HOW MANY PETS DO YOU HAVE?
One feline

WHAT IS YOUR WORST INJURY?
I have had two or three concussions
which explains plenty

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT?
Ducking responsibility

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO BAKE?
I've had some half-baked ideas

FAVORITE FAST FOOD?
Cheez-its
Triscuits
Salt & Vinegar potato chips

WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP?
Only if there's no other choice that less risky

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE?
Whether they pick their nose with their right or left hand
and that's only because it's impolite to watch which hand they wipe their...

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
When I saw I was tagged with this meme

ANY CURRENT WORRIES?
No, both the AC and DC are working fine

NAME 3 DRINKS THAT YOU DRINK REGULARLY:
Coffee, Root Beer, Ginger Ale

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE BOOK?
When Will Jesus Bring The Pork Chops?
by George Carlin

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A PIRATE?
You mean I'm not a pirate?

FAVORITE SMELLS?
Burning hair...
shizzle! I don't know

WHY DO YOU BLOG?
It's Carolina Brinkman's fault

WHAT SONG DO YOU WANT PLAYED AT YOUR FUNERAL?
There will be no funeral
Everyone's gonna party
Then they're goin' to a baseball game

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF?
Lack of candor

FAVORITE HOBBY?
Centipede racing
...really ...a favorite?

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A FRIEND?
Mutual respect

NAME SOMETHING YOU'VE DONE THAT YOU NEVER THOUGHT YOU'D DO:
A blog...
thanks a lot Carolina

FAVORITE FUN THINGS TO DO:
Stir the pot and lick the spoon

ANY PET PEEVES?
Gratuitous profanity

WHAT'S THE LAST THING THAT MADE YOU LAUGH?
It reminded me of my brother
Don't tell him because he doesn't know we're related

Seriously, Suldog would usually have made some kind of response to a meme like that by now
But he hasn't post to his blog in more than a week
There's been nothing from him on Facebook for five days
Could it be that Sully is the less than 1% of his community that's without power?

Anyhow, this is where we're supposed to victimize tag others
I can think of a few folks I'd like to know more about
But they never did anything to me so I will do what Uncle Skip did
Feel free to take up the challenge, but there's no obligation

Things are getting tough!

For all government workers and contractors

New Travel Instructions

Notice of TDY/TAD Travel Changes...........

TDY/TAD Travel

In keeping with the latest round of DOD budget cuts, changes will be made to
the Joint Travel Regulations (JTR). Effective Monday the following revised
procedures apply:

Lodging: All DOD personnel performing temporary duty (TDY) are encouraged to
stay with relatives and friends while on government business travel. If
weather permits, public areas such as parks should be used as temporary
lodging sites. Bus terminals, train stations, and office lobbies may provide
shelter in periods of inclement weather.

Transportation: Hitchhiking is the preferred mode of travel in lieu of
commercial transport. Luminescent safety vests will be issued to all
personnel prior to their departure on TDY. Bus transportation will be used
only when work schedules require such travel. Airline tickets will be
authorized in extreme circumstances and the lowest fares will be used. For
example, if a meeting is scheduled in Washington D.C., but a lower fare can
be obtained by traveling to Omaha, NE, then travel to Omaha will be
substituted for travel to Washington D.C.

Meals: Expenditures for meals will be limited to an absolute minimum. It
should be noted that certain grocery and specialty chains, such as Costco,
Hickory Farms, General Nutrition centers, and occasionally Safeway often
provide free samples of promotional items. Entire meals can be obtained in
this manner. We realize many of you survive your weekends this way.

Travelers should also be familiar with indigenous roots, berries, and other
protein sources available at their destinations. If restaurants must be
utilized, travelers should use "all you can eat" salad bars. This is
especially effective for employees traveling together as one plate can be
used to feed the entire group. DOD Personnel are also encouraged to bring
their own food on business travel. Cans of tuna fish, Spam, and Beefaroni
can be consumed at your leisure without the bother of heating or costly
preparation. Cost of these items will not be reimbursed.

Miscellaneous: All DOD personnel are encouraged to devise innovative
techniques in effort to save tax dollars. One enterprising individual has
already suggested that money could be raised during airport layover periods,
which could be used to defray travel expenses. In support of this idea, red
caps will be issued to all personnel prior to their departure so that they
may earn tips by helping others with their luggage. Small plastic roses and
ballpoint pens will also be available to personnel so that sales may be made
as time permits. Proceeds must be turned into the DOD finance section at the
conclusion of the TDY. We welcome any suggestions for further fiscal
innovations. Remember, "We invite you to be a Waste Buster"
